Measuring the effectiveness of antioxidants and fats in patients with atherosclerosis in the city of Samarra

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate oxidative stress and lipid levels in people with atherosclerosis. The number of patient samples in the research included (60) samples for both genders (30) males and (30) females. With a body mass index of more than 30 kg/m2. Their ages ranged between (40-75) years. The healthy samples included (30) samples (15) males and (15) females. With a body mass index of less than 24.9 kg/m2. They are in the same age group as those infected, and they are non-smokers, do not drink alcohol, and without other diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Blood samples were collected from patients and healthy people at Samarra General Hospital in Saladin Governorate on 10/1/2023 - 1/10/2024. Blood samples were collected to estimate the level of fats, glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondehyde (MDA), and peroxynitrite levels.
