Salim E. S. International Standards For The Rights of Prisoners - Iraq As A Model

Abstract

The prisoner is a human being and must have the rights other individuals have. So the existence of prison in our contemporary life is an inevitable social necessity because the security of society is linked to preserving these rights and can only be achieved through the existence of these places. The international charts provided the necessary protection for the rights of the prisoner, through recommendations and approval of a set of international standards for the protection of the rights of the prisoner, which were monitored by the United Nations in the Standard Minimum Rules for the Protection and Rights of Prisoners for the year 1955, in order to rehabilitate and reform the prisoner and bringing him back to society as a normal person. Thus, the Iraqi legislation was keen to protect the rights of the prisoner in accordance with the requirements of the provisions of the Law of Reform of Prisoners and Depositors in force in Iraq No. (14) of 2018, which is compatible with international conventions and covenants, and its compatibility with international standards for the protection of the rights of the prisoner.
