Abstract

Atenolol (ATL) and Losartan Potassium (LOS) were determined simultaneous in their pure and pharmaceutical forms in a simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method, based on calculating the difference in absorption at two wavelengths. Two different wavelengths were selected for each drug, namely 199.5, 210.5 nm and 210, 230.5 nm for ATL and LOS, respectively. Linearity ranged between 5-20 μg/ml and 5-25 μg/ml for ATL and LOS, respectively, was obtained. The percentage recovery values were between 95.3240-102.0304% and 95.8260-102.5040%. The relative standard deviation rate is between 0.0822-1.3771% and 0.0478-1.7129%. The molar absorption coefficient was 17.20298×103 L /mol. cm and 17.0109×103 L /mol. cm. The Sandell's index is 0.0154 μg/cm2 and 0.0271 μg/cm2. The detection limit was 0.021641 μg/ml and 0.111048 μg/ml and the quantitative limit 0.065580 μg/ml and 0.336509 μg/ml for ATL and LOS, respectively. The method has been successfully applied to determination of ATL and LOS in their pharmaceutical preparations
